Decoding Type Fields in BC where there is no table defining the type fields

Hi All,

we are releasing free "pseudo dimensional models" over the top of BC on premise databases so that PowerBI dashboards can be built directly over these tables. These views will eventually make all BC data visible via dimensional models. The links at the bottom takes you to demos of querying GL Entries directly with Power BI if you want to check it out. (Again, all free).

My question is that there are a lot of fields in BC that do not seem to have tables defining all the values for the fields to put into dimension tables. We would like to create descriptive tables of all these fields as part of these free query views.

Here are some examples (using our rename names):
g_l_entry.gen_posting_type
g_l_entry.bal_account_type
g_l_entry.fa_entry_type

Is there any documentation anywhere where we might look to find the definitions of all these "type" fields? We have gone though and created dimension views for all the code tables and there are many we can't find. I am wondering if someone has sat down and documented all these these "type" fields where there is no table defining their values.

Thanks.

Peter

    Hi Gerardo,

    thank you for that link.

    It is really appreciated.

I have not seen that bit of documentation before.

I will put the link in our own forums and share it around.

    Thanks

    Thank you ZHU,

I will also go through the BC demo system I have and see what I can find in there for each of these fields.

In the end I would like to create a library of the values of these fields as lookup tables to give them descriptions that can be used in PowerBI dashboards.

That's the target we are aimed at.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Khushbu Rajvi,

thank you very much for your answer.

I was thinking more of types of documents and types entries etc.

There are things like invoices, credit notes, debit notes and all these sorts of things.

There are a lot of cases in BC where these are common and they are enumerated but can be updated at BC customisation time.

I have been looking for the underlying tables where they might be stored but in many cases there seems to be no such table.

For example, for payment methods they are stored in CRONUS UK Ltd_$Payment Method$.

But for many other codes / types there seems to be no table where the value is stored.

At least not that I can find, there are a lot of tables.

    Best Regards

    Hi Jainam M. Kothari,

Thank you for taking your time and effort to answer my question.

    I really appreciate that.

As I mentioned to Khushbu Rajvi I was more looking for the definitions of these "type" fields.

They are similar to "code" fields.

For example, payment method codes are stored in CRONUS UK Ltd_$Payment Method$.

There are lots of these "code" tables for lookups to give descriptions to a code.

But in many cases I am not finding any table where a "type" field has a description stored about it.

The end point is to have dimension tables that can be read by PowerBI to produce PowerBI reports directly from the underlying tables for on prem BC accounts.

So, for the general ledger posting type, rather than 1,2,3,4 etc? It would be nice to have descriptions.

So I am looking for the descriptions inside the database if they are there.

    They may not be.

    This documentation shows an example.

Thank you again for your answer.

I really appreciate your time and effort.

    Best Regards
