Hello All,

Currently our PCs / Servers are running on Windows XP. Now, we are migrating to Windows 7 operating system.

Are there any specific "DOs & DON'Ts" that we need to know before or after migrating to Windows 7?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sam.

We have clients using RMS 2.0 and Win 7 Pro.

Some of the things to note -

    Take a backup first.

Assuming you are installing new Win 7 Pro registers with 2+ GB RAM.

    1. Upgrade to latest RMS 2.0 Service Pack. Upgrade RMS database.

    2. Install SQL Server Express 2005 SP3  or 2008 on each register.

    3. Set security firewall to allow RMS and SQL to run and access the Server on each register.

    4. If Cashiers do not have local window admin priveleges - Provide them access to RMS registry.

    5. Make sure your offline database syncs and the daily backups work.

There might be additional software /  drivers needed based on the POS peripherals and add-on software being in use.

    Best regards,

    Almost right.

(don't forget a lot of this stuff will only run with administrative priviliges,

so get your domain up first, it makes life easier)

SQL sp4, don't forget to set the open rowset on the in the sql config

Run feature pack 1 -- necessary to run sp4

Run the latest service pack 4 this makes it work nicely with windows 7

then the other stuff Mr. Shah said.

The upgrading to Windows 7 and RMS 2.0 SP4 is making me really nervous after looking at all of the posts and questions.

I am getting ready now to start installation on two new 64bit computers with Windows 7 Professional SP1 and I am starting with SQL Server Express 2008 x64 as it looks like I should do. I have no idea what is meant by "don't forget to set the open rowset in the sql config".

Jeff, are you out there today?

I will continue in my effort and hope that everything installs correctly. Also nervous about the peripheral drivers since we will be using existing cash drawers, Epson printers, Logitech displays, and Metrologic scanners. Due to put it all in on Sunday night - 7/8/12.

If anyone has any experience to share beyond all of the material throughout the sites, I am open to hearing about it.

    Thanks out there and aloha,

    Roxanne

Installation went great - thanks to Jeff's step by step instructions in "Database Connection Lost". Would have taken a much longer time without these instructions.
