What are usual steps do you do follow while applying Major and Minor version updates in Cloud Business Central (BC)?
For example, Do you apply the updates in Production Environment right away or to Sandbox first?
Are there standard recommended steps and best practice?
Thank you.

Always review Microsoft’s release notes to understand changes and plan.Never update Production directly.
Update Sandbox first — copy from Production if needed, prioritize a testing Sandbox.
Validate: Extensions (per-tenant and ISV apps), Customizations and integrations (Power Automate, Dataverse), Critical business processes.Check extension compatibility with the new version.
If there are any warnings or errors, remove, re-publish, and re-test them. If everything works smoothly in Sandbox, proceed to update Production.

    Step Action
1 Check Release Notes for the new version (Major or Minor). Know what's changing first!
2 Update Sandbox First. Always. NEVER go straight to Production.
3 Test Extensions and Customizations. Run all your key processes (Sales Orders, Purchasing, Posting, Reports, etc.).
4 Coordinate with Users. Inform your team that testing is happening and when you plan to update Prod.
5 Fix Any Issues. If any extension breaks or if something weird happens, fix it first in the Sandbox.
6 Schedule Production Update. Microsoft automatically schedules it, but you can request it sooner or delay within allowed windows.
7 Backup Prod (Snapshot). Even though BC SaaS auto-backs up, take a manual snapshot just in case.
8 Update Production. After you're happy and tested, update Prod. Celebrate quietly.

    Hello,

When applying major and minor version updates in Business Central, it's best to first review the release notes to understand the changes, then apply the updates to a sandbox environment for thorough testing. Ensure you have recent backups, notify users, and schedule the update during a maintenance window. After updating, verify functionality, check customizations, and provide user training and support. Regular updates, detailed documentation, and a feedback loop with users are essential best practices to ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruptions.

Typically sandbox first, if its a major update, you would want to test your processes as well to ensure they work with the new update as well.

Most of the time, minor version is okay to go straight to production.
Major goes under testing in the sandbox.

The impact of updates largely depends on the Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and customizations present in your system. Generally, if there are any errors related to an update, you will receive an email notifying you to address those issues before proceeding with the update. In other cases, review the updates issued in both Minor and Major releases to determine if any of your customizations might be affected. If there are potential conflicts, be sure to update your sandbox environment and conduct thorough testing before applying the changes to your production environment.
