Account number for transaction type Project - cost does not exist. But it should

Today I began working in our test environment but I cannot post in the project module.  All postings are set up in Project management>Setup>Ledger posting setup.  The account structure looks valid as well in General ledger>setup>Ledger.  Everything works outside of projects.  Has anyone ever come across this?

    Hello Richard,

If you have setup all necessary accounts in the ledger posting form then this issue might be related to a bug. On LCS I have found hotfixed that refer to the project posting type project - WIP but not to the project posting type cost. If you have not made any customizations and do not have a developer on hand to debug, I would suggest that you contact the MS Support directly. They might be able to help you hopefully quickly.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Richard,

    Check your account structure.

Ensure your project ledger accounts are included in the range specified in the account structures.

Account structure seems legit and it is not just Project - cost it is EVERY project posting.

    Hello Richard,

Can you test whether setting up the cost account 610109 under GL/Setup/Posting/Accounts for automatic Transactions for the posting type "Project - cost" helps?

Added the account, deleted item journal line, created new line, posted journal

    No change

By the way: this is a copy of our Live environment we have been testing in since September.  The last time it worked was late May so something has changed recently.

    Hello Richard,

If it worked before then I could imagine that the issue is caused by a modification implemented. I would suggest that you ask one of your developers to take a look at what changed since September. Maybe they just forgot compiling/syncronizing something?!

Would be great if you could keep us updated.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

Can you specify with business document you are attempting to post?  Since Payroll allocation is being displayed with an error above, I'm assuming it is relate to posting Hours. There are multiple documents/processes which can post hour transactions.

    Hi Richard,

Usually when this error appears in the AP or AR modules it is related to the posting profile group the customer/vendor is assigned too is different to what is stated on the PO/SO.

So have a look at your project, ensure your categories or project group on which your postings are setup is setup correctly and there are no data issues.

As Ludwig mentioned, get a technical person to debug the process, they will easily spot where the actual problem lies.

    Regards,

    Anisha

    Found it:

I tried doing a movement journal on one of the accounts in IWM and it failed similarly so it is on the accounts and not a project issue.

I compared the ledger and found the accounts separated by a comma.  changed this to a ";" and reaactivated and it works!

Not sure if it was the syntax or the reactivation.  Thanks for the help
