Need to reopen the Purchase Order to update Promised delivery date

Hello,
The user is trying to update the promised delivery date field in the header but it is not allowing to update unless you reopen it.
Whereas the other date fields like requested receipt is allowed to be added without reopening the document.
 
We have set up a purchase order approval workflow for purchasing.
 
I'm trying to understand the impact on the need to re-open the document update this particular field because reopening the order means user will have to resend the approval request only for this change.
