How to replace a customer asset during an on-site work?

There are such cases when a customer asset cannot be repaired on-site. In such cases

  • the asset (e.g. an industrial computer) is un-installed from the site location and transferred back to the central service warehouse to repair (the physical location of the asset changes: functional location -> mobile warehouse -> service warehouse),
  • a new asset is installed as a replacement within the site location,
  • after the repair is completed, the original asset can be installed in a new functional location.

When using RMA process, it simply manages the return of an inventory item. But (as far as I understand this functionality), it does not change any information if the asset itself (new location, new status, new owner etc.).

I am sure asset replacementi s a standard service process, however I cannot realize how to manage it correctly within Field Service:
  • How to maintain up-to-date information about the asset's status (operating, in RMA, in service etc.), and physical location (functional location, mobile warehouse or central warehouse)?
