Auto populate filtered result for lookup field

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

On my quote form "Price List" is a lookup field based on "Dealer Account". I'd like to create a workflow (I don't know how to write code) that will auto populate the price list relative to the specific dealer account.

I already have it set up to filter, so if I click on it then it will show me the selection it should be. I just want to take it a step further and actually have it populate rather than having to click on it first.

I've tried to create the workflow so many different ways and I can't get it to work. I'd like it to be a real time based on record field change.

I was hoping to do a workflow because I don't know how to do the javascript OnChange. I found an example online of how to auto populate something with a lead form, however I can't figure out how to make anything work on the quote form. My company doesn't have a large budget for this, so I have been tasked with doing it. If I could just figure out more of the javascript from a very novice level I would be okay. This is literally the first time I've ever used it. So even when I see an example, I don't know what parts go in what place.

Everyone here is so skilled, so I feel dumb even asking this stuff sometimes.

If I understand correctly your scenario can work. Except a workflow will trigger only on save. So, it won't be in real time. You need javascript for that.

Hope the below example might be helpful for you. It is to query other entity using jquery(XRMServiceToolkit) and also you can call the jquery function on change of the field.

Why are you want to create Workflow. You can achieve this using Javascript ,OOB Workflow or Relationship Mapping(with some limitations but depends on your business requirement).

OnChange of Dealer Account field ,fetch Price List and set on Quote form.
