Work template: can't fill in Directive code

Posted on by 391

Hi, we're using Ax 2012 R3.

I'm trying to set up a work template, to do replenishments, picking from only certain locations.

I've made a Location directive in which the query points to these locations.

But when I set up the work template, in the first "Pick" line I want to set the Directive Code, but it's impossible to fill this in. What am I doing wrong?

RE: Work template: can't fill in Directive code

Hi Guy, yes, I fear there are plenty (perhaps unnecessary) modifications in our replenishments. But the wave replenishment seems to work as I hoped: work is created to replenish the items with the quantities that are "On order", even though they're on order for a production order, and not for a sales order. The work is created when I do the Replenishment Inquiry, so that's what I needed. Now only I need to find a way to filter out this work so specific people can see it - but I think I can do this by filtering on Work template, as you've told me in a previous thread.

    Thanks again.

I'm not sure how that works (since Wave demand replenishment is supposed to be triggered by the Processing of a sales order shipment Wave). But it looks like you have some mods in the replenishment logic, and I can't even guess what they do.

Hi Guy, thanks so much for your answer.

I've been wondering about your remarks as well, but this is how the current replenishment system is set up by our consultants, and it seems to work (...albeit quite creaky, imho).

However, I figured following your remark that I need Wave Demand Replenishment rather than Min/Max replenishments.

So I configured this replenishment template:

and lo and behold! ... Work was created!!

    Many thanks for your guidance.

(I can tip you in bitcoins if you'd like).

RE: Work template: can't fill in Directive code

To me, it looks like the reason that nothing is happening is because you are doing a Min/Max replen and your Min quantity is Zero.

The Min & Max quantities are set on the replenishment template line. And the Min/Max replenishment logic says 'when stock falls below Min, create a replenishment to bring it up to Max'. If Min is zero, well, you'd need your stock to fall below zero to get a replenishment.

    That's point 1.
Point 2 is that I've never used a replenishment template line where 'Replenish only fixed locations' was un-ticked. I think I can see what you want it to do, but the replenishment template line is responsible for determining the location to replenish. If you set the location query to find all the locations in a zone, will it try to replenish every location in that zone!? I'm not sure.

And the third point I want to make is I'm not sure a Min/Max replen is the right way to get what I think you want. For example, the On order quantities indicate some demand that you want to meet, and presumably these quantities can change. But Min/Max replen is working with fixed Min/Max quantities; not any 'On order' quantity.

I've edited the query in the header of the location directive, to point to the Replenishment template I created, but this also doesn't give the desired result.

Anyone has any tips? Much obliged.

Hmmm... I can't get it working.

Context: Our (Zone ID) assembly is made up of several locations. On some of these assembly-locations there are some items "On order". These items are present on other assembly-locations.

I want to get Ax to make work to get these items at the locations where they are, and bring them to where they are needed. All the locations are in the same Zone ID.

Location directive: I set up the location directive for work order type Replenishment, with a directive code and with the query pointing towards the desired Zone ID for picking.

Work template: I then made a new work template. This is a copy of the current work template (which is used to replenish the Assembly zone, from a general warehouse).

The query in the work template is empty.

Replenishment template: I then made a replenishment template, based on the current replenishment template.

The product query is as shown in the picture, and the location query points to the zone where I want to replenish, in this case the same zone as I'm picking from.

The directive code is filled in, on the Replenishment Template Line.

    Replenishment-template.PNG

Replenishment: I then run the replenishment inquiry, but alas!... no work is created.

After about 5 minutes waiting, I get:

    3051.Infolog.PNG

    There are items on order:

As an example: in the screenshot below you can see items on order, that are present on another location, all of these locations are in the same Zone ID "Assembly".

For Replenishments, you don't set the Directive code on the Work template; you set it on the Replenishment template line.
