Analytical Accounting added to existing installation best practices

I am adding AA to an existing GP installation.  This is a new project for this client and they still want to continue to report on the history.  So the have no AA codes in History and want to include one of the new codes to the old history.  I was thinking about using non- printing columns to add history and current together.   Here is what i am thinking.....  All new AA will have a specific segment identifier.  Like 01-5100-9?  will now be an AA account.  We will have 2 AA codes SC and HC  I will use Mass Modify to copy the current P&L accounts and add the new extension.   So going forward all accounts with a 9 in the 7th position will be an AA account.  For the history since everything else in the string will be the same I will use a tree to include no AA code and "SC" for one column and "HC' in the new column.    My Client was told that they could not have historical data without AA codes and AA codes in the same MR report.  Would what I have suggested work?  or is it true that we need to find a way to edit all of the history?

Yes, we use this in the dimensions for the tree:

    +PROPERTY ID = []

if we want to report per dimension...otherwise MR treats AA like an extension of the GL account code so blank is an acceptable value.

our AA Code is PROPERTY ID

So in your experience using {} in MR for the AA code worked?

Oh and if you want to add the code permanently the easiest way will probably be using SQL to update the records for history....

Unless they changed something in 2015 (we're still on 2013R2 for the time being) they are right and wrong.  Every transaction will have an AA transaction assigned to it (or should), even in history BUT my experience is that the prior transactions will have either no AA dimension code id assigned to it OR have a code id of zero which is basically "blank" in the eyes of MR.  We included it on our reports with {DIMENSION}=[] instead of {DIMENSION}=[123].
