Document attachments in AX2012

We have a shared folder on a File Server where various document types are stored after being attached to orders in AX. Recently the permission on the share was changed from Everyone - Modify, to AOS-Service Account Modify and Everyone read - only. I tested this and could access attached documents, but no-one else can. I am an AX Admin so perhaps AX security gives me access via the service account, while other users are using their own folder access. Can anyone advise how too give all AX users access to attachments without giving Everyone Modify access?

    Thanks, Amith

I suspected that to be the case. It is a bit of a security flaw in AX, as access to the folder should be controlled by AX Security, not by Windows share permissions. Thanks anyway.

    Regards

    Allen

    Hi Allen,

Document store is written and read from by the AX Service account and the users that write and read documents in this folder. Therefore folder must be a UNC/network path and the users and service account will require read, write, list, and modify permissions on this folder.

    Thanks,

    Amith Prasanna

I replaced everyone - modify with Domain users modify. That works but is not a particularly elegant solution.

Yes, and I've changed the Everyone permission back to modify on the share to allow users to add new attachments. What I want to do is make Everyone read only and set AX users to modify access via the AOS service account. Do you know how to set that up in AX? The current setup means any user could delete AX attachments from Windows Explorer: that is the security hole I am trying to patch.

    Hi Allen,

Please check if any of the users are able to access the shared drive using file explorer. Please check if the folder is still shared as well.

By the way, how will the users add new attachments if you are taking away modify permissions?
