Where to find API support

When trying to fetch generalLedgerEntries from the v1 api, we receive the following error:

The operation has been canceled because it took longer to generate rows than the specified threshold (00:08:00).

However, the error does not occur everytime. When trying the same request, it will sometimes succeed. Since 2 days ago, the error keeps popping up more. We have tried any form of decreasing the request load, but no fix yet.

Therefore, I would like to be able to communicate with any kind of support for the API. Does that exist? When looking at the website, I only see supports for the platform itself, but none for the API...

Thanks in advance!

In that case, raise a support ticket and Microsoft will investigate.

Or implement telemetry and you can have a look yourself.

5000 records is not much and should load quickly. Are you sure that's the API that is causing issues? Are there locks in the table(s) that cause the API to wait, and then timeout?

Thanks for the replies! We're aware of what the error means and what it causes.

I'm just not quite following how requesting one page of 5000 generalLedgers takes over 8 minutes to process to cause this error...

This error usually means your load takes longer then the timeout.

Ledger Entries contain a lot of rows, and very rarely you need all rows in Power BI.

Best is to develop a Query API, in which you group the data, at the level of granularity required in Power BI. This reduces the dataset, so it will take less time to load. And make sure you implement DataAccessIntenrReadOnly.

On top of that, in Power BI you could also configure incremental load (using dataflows).

RE: Where to find API support

Hi, It looks like it exceeds the limits below.

    Current API Limits (v1.0)
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/api-reference/v1.0/dynamics-current-limits

And, It's recommended that integrations move to v2.0 of the standard APIs.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

If you need support around the API you should contact your partner. If they are not able to assist you then you should ask them to open a supportcase with Microsoft on your behalf.
