Just suddenly we get:
"Status for Organisation XXXX: Inactive
Why?
We havent received any email about maintenance or changes for our organisation
Please advise

Hi svl_kent,
Something similar happened to one of our client Sandbox last week. Microsoft support told, it was happened when they did a minor update. There was no email from Microsoft regarding this update. Microsoft is still trying to restore the back up. Better contact Microsoft support to fix this issue.

I would contact MS support and check with them. Don't know why they would do it or what happened, but something that only they can fix...
