Warehousing - Where do i Start & is this possible

Hi Team,

So I have been given a task to look into and potentially set up a Warehousing set up in BC. I have never used the Warehousing module and have started reading up on it.

The scenario I am looking at looks like this:

1. A Customer books a move

2. In the date a vehicle that has a barcode scanner associated to it, will be sent to the customer.

3. Inventory Items are scanned (can these have dynamic tags to add names) and then associate those items into a box (Unique ID of boxes).

4. Vehicle now has a status of “In Transport”

5. Arrives at Warehouse, the Box is checked in as "In Warehouse zz"

6. Item and box stay in Warehouse zz

7. Time for Box to leave Warehouse zz - RFID used to scan box to make sure right box and right items in box

8. Loaded to Vehicle and no back "In Transport".

9. Delivered to End Customer.

10. Customer confirms Items and box

The above is what i would like to achieve. Is this do able in BC and if so what is the best way of setting it up.

Thanks in Advance

Regarding your scenario, are you a logistics/3PL company?  It sounds like you are shipping a product on behalf of your customer, with a brief stop at a transfer station, to your customer's customer.  Am I understanding the scenario properly?

There are 3PL specific extensions for BC.  I believe there are also logistics specific extensions as well.  You may want to look at their offerings to see if it has a more complete solution for your needs.

If you don't go for an industry specific solution, I would suggest using Insight Works - "License Plate Management" for the Box ID and barcode.  Pair that with the Warehouse Insights product and you'll be scanning products everywhere you go.

Your requirements are a bit vague. There might be many ways to use warehousing and RF scanners to do what you need. We need more details to help. For example.

Customer books a move. What is a move? Who owns the stock at that point?

Items are scanned and add names. Whose name? Don't you have the item description at the point of collection?

It seems to me that you can manage the process with basic warehousing and transfer orders.

Regarding FR scanners, there are many mobile WMS extensions for BC. Some can be found here appsource.microsoft.com/.../apps

    Hi,

    For this you have required.

    1. Transfer Order for transferring the material form one warehouse to another warehouse with Transfer Challan Report having all details related to Items.-- Standard

    2. Develop Sticker and used barcode scanning-- Customization Required.

    3. Pick and Put features also used in this requirement along with BIN and Locations.

My suggestion is to consult with warehouse consultant for better mapping.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. to clear a few things up:

    - The company is a Removals & Storage Company

    - "A Customer books a move" = A new Job where the Company go to a client and remove items & then store.

Right now i am not too worried about the scanning part of things and more about a simple out of the box process using basic Warehousing functionality and the Transfer request process - would my scenario above work with Basic NAV/BC funcitonality?

    Thanks everyone

You need an extension that deals with license plating or containers.

Under this scenario, you can track a box, pallet, container. That is what you scan rather than individual items.

If you do want to inventory individual items, you would need mobile label printing but that is possible. You can add individual items to a container.

Look at insightworks and clever containers as two options.

    Hello,

    I would personally suggest - go to - https://usedynamics.com/

    Find - Warehouse Management.

You'll get each and everything pertaining to Basic Warehouse and Advance Warehouse. (set Ups and Basic Transactions)

This will be a great start for you to understand via Video.

This website is also great for Basic Training and Understanding in Business Central.

    Apart from this -

You should also see the Microsoft learn if there's anything which was not clear to you.

I hope this will help you a lot.

    Regards

    Karan
