I'm trying to understand what the "Balance control" setting is used for:

If balance control is set to Credit, it won't allow a transaction to post to the main account that would result in a debit balance. Likewise if set to Debit, it won't allow a credit balance in that account.

Hi JD,

Balance control used to prevent posting main account on debit or credit.

Like Frank mentioned, when you set up balance control on a main account (e.g. debit), if the balance on journal goes credit, you will get an error message.
