Has anyone ever experienced state withholding tax not calculating on a paycheck? I've set them up like everyone else but can't get the state tax withholding to calculate.

I have two new hires that I cannot get the state tax withholding to calculate on their paycheck.  I have set them up just like everyone else.  I do get a warning on the build check report, "The pay is subject to state tax, but no state was specified" I have no idea where to fix this.  I have looked at every paycode they have assigned to them and they all have the state box checked.  Any suggestions?

The 2nd window helps us resolving an issue where an employee switched from hourly to salary and GP keeps ignoring state withhold until we fill in the state under Tax Withholding State above even though under Pay code window, the state is filled in.

    So thank you!

If it's a non-salary pay code, you can click the chevrons to expand the lines in the Payroll Transaction Entry window.  You should see a State Tax filled in there if the employee setup is correct.  (If it's blank, you could key one in at this point.)

If it's SALARY, then you probably need to look at the Employee Tax Maintenance window (off the employee card):

Thanks David for replying.  I've deleted the transactions and just processed their biweekly salary in the build but still no state taxes are coming out.  Any other suggestions?  And what did you mean by double spacing the lines?  In the transaction entry screen?

The order of events can matter.  If you added the lines to the payroll transaction entry window but the state taxes weren't set up initially, then fixing the employees after wouldn't resolve the transactions.  You could double-space those lines to see if the state tax is blank.  Or you could delete those lines and re-enter and you should be able to proceed.
