Weighted Average Date

Hello,

We are in the process of implementing AX2012 R2.  We are currently looking at either Weighted Average Date or Standard Cost for our cost method for Finished good, Intermediate, and Raw Material items.  One of the concerns we've heard about Weighted Average Date is the length of time it takes to run the Inventory close.  For those who are on AX2012 and are using Weighted Average Date, what have you seen in regards to run time?

Thanks,

Chris

    Hi Chris,

This depends on the number if items, transactions and if you have BOMs or not. Usually these tasks are scheduled in a batch and will run overnight.

It is recommended to have a close at least once a month. At one customer with a very high transaction volume the inventory close is scheduled once a week and a recalculation every day. This ensures that the closing will run during the "maintenance window". I dont't know the current actual run time for thus customer.

These are costing methods that behave in very different ways. My advice would be to go with the one that behaves how you would like.

When I was a user (AX 2009), we used Weighted average date. From memory, the close in one company was done once a month, and took a few hours. In another company, (who were posting production RaF and 100 line picking list journals for one unit at a time!) InventTrans was enormous, and they had to run close once per week over night.
