Hello all,

Please I am requesting if anyone can help me with a step by step approach to deploying a tier 1 and tier 2 sandbox in an on premise environment, I will be grateful if anyone can break this down into simple terms which one may understand and be able to implement. Thank you very much.

Hi Squash1986, what would be the starting point for the step-by-step process? Do you already have an On-premises implementation project in LCS? Have you set up the Service Fabric?

Yes I have an on-premise implementation project in LCS, and I have a service fabric installed on premise. I have tried to implement the step 21 but it doesn't seem to deploy the sandbox.

can you share any details about the situation? First you asked about step by step guide, but now it seems you already know in theory how to do it (step by step) but have some issue. But we don't know what the issue is.

Yes I already know how to deploy the sandbox environment in theory. However, here are screenshots as to the reason why I'm asking the aforementioned question.

First of all, I am kind of confused about the notification in the image below which says that "Sandbox Develop and Test environments will only be deployable as cloud-hosted environments after November 2, 2020". My deployment and installation is an on-premise implementation. So when I see that notification, what I understand from it is that sandbox can't be deployed on-premise. What we want is an on-premise deployment, and it is the reason why I am asking ( if I should rephrase my question), how do I deploy the sandbox develop test environment on-premise.

The notification only concerns Tier 1 sandboxes ("Develop and test") and actually it only concerns Cloud implementations. Microsoft will no longer be offering a Tier 1 sandbox as part of the cloud subscription.

But as far as I know, you can still deploy Tier 1 sandbox in on-premises project (assuming it was possible before). If it's not possible, then you can download a VHD from Shared Asset Library and set it up. I'm not sure if it has ever been possible to deploy a Tier 1 sandbox for On-premises from LCS, or if you would instead need to download the VHD.

Your screenshots seems to show a Tier 2 system ("Standard Acceptance Test"). That system can't be used for development, instead if must be used for testing.

It depends on what you mean by "Tier 2 purposes".

VHDs are always onebox systems = Tier 1. Tier 2 is a multi-node system with multiple AOS, separate database etc..

You must deploy any deployable package succesfully to a Tier2 system before it can be deployed to prod.

Sorry I meant for the Standard Acceptance Test when I spoke about Tier 2 purposes.

Invariably, I can proceed with my installation according to the dynamics 365 F&O documentation?

I mean it seems that from your experience and judgment, there's no other method to deploy this sandbox other than the straight forward method that is stated out in the documentation.

Hi,

again it depends on what you mean by "Standard Acceptance Test" purposes.

To me it seems that you have succesfully deployed a Tier2 (Standard Acceptance Test) system. Is this correct?

You should use that system for Acceptance Testing and validating all your packages before deploying to prod.

Do you still have some open issue / problem?

I think I will say I am not done with the deployment, however I believe I am on the right path.

Thank you once more for this discussion on this forum, It's been very informative. For now I think I am ok, and good to go. If I have any issue or problem with my installation, I won't hesitate in bringing it up here.
