Production Orders containing cut-to-length items - cutting plan

Posted on by 35

Hi,

In my company one of our products is cables. On our current setup each cable has an item number and we process that internally using meters as unit of measure

One of our services is to offer cables already cut to size to the customer, and I'd like to implement that in the system, however I'm having trouble when I have the same cable but in different lengths in the production BoM. For example:

Let's say I have on my system Cable A - Item number 123

I then have a Produced item - Cable Kit A - Item number 321

In the BOM list of CableKit A , I have the following lines:

3M of cable A

4.5M of Cable A

1.5M of Cable A.

However when I generate a production order for CableKit A, these lines are consolidated into a single line of 9M of cable, and so the people at the shopfloor do not know the cutting plan. Any ideas on how to implement this into NAV without having to create a separate item number for each length of cable?

Best Regards,

    Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for your replies. I was able to do it by using the different routing links. Thanks so much for your support.

    Happy New Year,

Based on what you have written, it the only action that someone pulls the Cable from Inventory and performs 3 cuts to specific length? If yes, have you thought about using an Assembly BOM and add the Resource for labor cost? I created a test one (pictures below). I think this is what you are looking for more that the Production Order process.

If you still want to continue using the Production Order process, you could use a Routing Link and define each Size as a Routing Link Code. I created an Item that has a BOM like this:

I also created a Routing and related Routing Link Code to each size Item component and it looks like this:

The Released Production Order calls the Item and asks for a Quantity of 1

with Material Requisition defining the 3 sizes:

I hope this gives you a few options to do what you need.

    Thanks,

    Steve
