When creating a Picklist in GP Manufacturing is there some setting or configuration I am missing to get the system to Allocate items from bin locations THAT ACTUALLY HAVE INVENTORY! Right now when we Allocate items when the MO is released, it is blindly allocating from the default issue bin on the item or the site. Then we have to edit the pick doc to select the correct bins and then print it to give it to the picking team.
Thanks
Tim

The behavior I'm observing is by design. When you create a Manufacturing Issue transaction, Dynamics GP will not select bins that have Inventory. GP will look to the Default Issue bin from the Item Quantity Master table (IV00102) and then, failing that, it will look to the Default Issue Bin from the Site table (IV40700). It took a production planner 40 minutes to correct the Pick list to show the picker where the parts are located This is because they do not do fixed location stocking. We are going to have to change the way things are done. At this point, I'm looking a nightly SPROC to set the Default Issue Bin in IV00102 to a bin that actually has Quantity on Hand or a SPROC that "fixes" a Pick list.

Thanks for responding Richard. I may have mis-stated the problem - you are probably right that the Allocation upon Release of the MO may not be to the bin level. Our problem is that when an Issue transaction is created (not posted) the Picking Report is showing a default bin (specified at the site level) that has no stock (nor will it ever). Using that report, the pickers will not know where to go to find the Inventory.

Are you using any 3rd party products? MS Manufacturing does not normally allocate to the bin level when the MO is released.
