Workflow - Updating Records - Connected Account and Contact

Good afternoon all!

I have some Accounts in my system where a Contact is linked to the Account via a Connection (because the Contact already is "owned" by another account).  What I'm trying to do is create an on-demand workflow where I can copy information from the Contact to the Account that are linked by the Connection.  I would appreciate any help you all can offer!

    Hi Josh,

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to do anything like that in a workflow. CRM is okay about letting you get back data in workflows, but it sucks for writing data because there's no mechanism to select a (1:N or N:N) related record to updated. You would need to write a custom workflow activity to copy the data over.

Sorry it's not the answer you're looking for, but I'd still appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Josh,
Look at the screenshot below, I have assumed that you are using 'Connected from' subgrid on accounts form

If yes, you can create a workflow like the one in below screenshots:

Now, its upto you, if you want to run this workflow on demand or backend. for on-demand, checkmark the option on workflow and run it on adavnced find connection results.

    Hope it helps!

Edit: Please ignore this post.  I misread Prashant's post, and it actually does appear to work.

Good morning, Prashant!  Thank you for the time you took in responding.  Unfortunately, I think there was some confusion in what I'm trying to do.  I don't want to update the Connected To or Connected From records themselves.  What I'm hoping to do is update the Account with data from a Contact, where the Account and Contact are linked by a Connection.

Thanks for the response, Aiden!  I was starting to think that this was the case, but as I'm learning CRM, I didn't know if this was a case of not knowing some special trick.  Thank you for your help!

The solution I ended up using, in case it helps others: my goal was to try to link a Contact to multiple Accounts.  If anyone is seeing this, you have probably scoured Google and found out how hard it can be to do this.  We have a situation in my company where a Contact can belong to an Account, but that Contact can also be their own Account as an individual.  I tried messing with Connections, but it was irritating how on the "individual" Account, the Contact record would show up under a Connections subgrid rather than where Contacts normally show up.  I ended up scrapping connections entirely.  On my Contact form, I added an Account lookup field called "Individual Account".  I then created a new Account form for "Individual Accounts", and modified the Contacts subgrid to use the entity "Contacts (Individual Account)".  This allows me to have one Contact linked to two accounts that shows in the Contact grid, but the user has to choose the relevant form when viewing an account.  I found this to be easier than users trying to understand how to add a Contact and connect it to multiple accounts.

You are right.  I misread one of the screeshots, and can see now that you are in fact able to update the connected entities.  Thank you so much for your time and help on this!
