I have a similar question.
Overview:My client is requesting guidance in order to properly setup Cost centers in a consistent format. As they continue to acquire companies, they would like to assimilate their new companies’ cost centers into a predefined set of 35 cost centers. Obstacle:Organizational Units (cost centers) are shared but need to be able to adjust manager for each legal entity for PO workflow approval purposes. This is due to the fact that they will have several different Operating units that will require different manager's approval and cannot be one global manager for the entire organization. Navigation:Org Admin > Setup > Org > Operating Units
Hi Ravish,
Functionally there is no support for copying the hierarchy. If you have development capacity, they can probably create a job or customization to achieve this. We have accomplished a customization before to include companies for a security hierarchy without using the normal user interface.
@Lally: You can create organization hierarchies by navigating to: Organization administration, Common, Organizations, Organization hierarchies. Then click the button New, Organization hierarchy. After created the new hierarchy you can edit and build up the hierarchy.
Note that when you want to assign hierarchies to a single purpose, the purpose Organization chart will support only the first found when using e.g. the MyDepartments table in an eXtensible Data Security policy.
Ok
can we copy the same heirarchy model from one legal entity to another. Because hierarchy model is common across entities
You can create multiple hierarchies (a hierarchy per company). Then it is posssible.
Hi Andre ,
Generally we will create the one hierarchies only for all the legal entities , but in which scenario we need to create the multiple hierarchies ?
Can you tell me how to create the multiple hierarchies in Ax ?
Please explain with an example.
Indeed a department can be used only once in an organization hierarchy. This does not mean the department is not global. The field 'Select the level of dimension value to display' is only used to manage settings for a department globally or per legal entity. E.g. you can suspend the dimension value per legal entity or global.
A department is like e.g. cost centers, business unit, legal entities an internal organization.
Per organization hierarchy you can include an internal organization only once.
You can setup more than one organization hierarchy (per legal entity). Then you can include the department in each hierarchy. But when you want to use one single hierarchy for e.g. the purchasing policies you will encounter this limitation.
It is also possible to create departments per legal entity. So there is e.g. a separate "marketing" department for each legal entity. This is like the setup within the Contoso demonstration companies. This has also some side effects when you want to have a view on a certain department.
Hi Andre
Our company has more than 10 legal entities. Some departments are commonly used among all the legal entities. My intention is to create entitly wise hierarchy but suppose a department A is used in the hierarchy of first legal entity then same department is not availabe to add in the organisation hierarcy of the next.
In all the departments - Select the level of dimension value to display : is - Shared Value
pls suggest
The departments, cost centers and business units are already shared.
Do you mean if you can create one hierarchy with multiple legal entities and per legal entity using the same departments? Then this is not possible. Every internal organization can be used only once in a hierarchy. You can create multiple hierarchies (a hierarchy per company). Then it is posssible.
I don't know your intentions, so please elaborate more if possible.
