GP2015 PTE Timesheet Layout

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

This is my very first Dynamics Community post, so go easy on me! We have upgraded to GP2015 from GP10, and trying to set up PTE for timetracking and allocation of salaries to our GL. We had a custom timecard system (since 1996) that allowed one to assign hours to a cost center (department) along with a paycode (regular, OT, vac, etc..). It summarized the hours allocated to each and in total, so it was easy to visually verify what one entered.  In GP2015, it appears that the timecard allows one to assign hours to a paycode, then invoke a "pop-up dialogue box" to assign a cost center, and then move onto the next day/cell, with no way to verify, when finished, what was entered to each cost center without going back and clicking on each individual cell to see where it was allocated, then to manually sum those.

The custom timecard we had is evidently not functional or supported in GP2015, and no longer available (except as part of a more robust and pricier customized package).

Below is the timecard from the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7dUgZD7w4s  that we are trying to invoke - It also seems (from youtube videos and GP2015 help) that there is a "timesheet set up" option (only if the project module is installed?). This option does not exist in our GP2015. We don't have Project, and have been advised against it*.  But the GP2013R2 timesheet from the video looks to have the cost center and the paycode on the same (expandable) row in the grid. I am seeking some guidance, maybe someone who has Project and is using PTE, if the project module timesheet is customizable in this fashion, where the cost center (for us this is a Department code that is mapped to our GL, several codes generating salary charges, benefits, vac and sick accrual  when payroll is processed), together with the paycode can appear on the grid.

* I understood that using Project would require assigning project codes to all our projects, which are currently manageable using our account string, and possibly require reworking our business model - Maybe learning Dexterity, and trying to insert a column and connect it to the UPR42201 - Department table, with whatever nifty back-end formulas are required to allow it make the calculations to display the total hours, and connect somehow so that everything goes where it should to pull into batches for processing.  I intend to read up on GP Dexterity unless someone can direct me to a better resource. Are there classes for this stuff?  Our GPpartner is working on a quote to customize the timesheet for us, but in the meantime I'm trying to understand more.

Thanks,

Matt Cirillo
