GP 2016 running slow after Microsoft push of processor bug fix

We have a customer that called in with a complaint that GP is running slow after the push of Microsoft's  Windows update for processor security bugs.  They have removed the update and stated that GP was pretty much unusable.
Anyone else having this issue or know of any resolutions to speed up GP after this windows update?

Thanks!

Angela

We haven't seen the case volume here on the Support Desk to suggest there is an issue. Do you know what the actual Windows Update is that seemingly caused the performance to change? Also, what version of Windows and Dynamics GP is your customer running?

If you can give this information, I could test it and see if I see anything.

Other than that, we haven't seen anything as of yet to suggest this is affecting other Dynamics GP users.

    Thanks

Thank you for the quick response.

    From our Customer:

Microsoft released out-of-band security updates for Windows that address a recently revealed major security bug in Intel, AMD and ARM processors.

The updates are filed under the IDs KB4056888 , KB4056890. KB4056891, KB4056892, and KB405689. All updates share the following description:

Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows Graphics, Windows Kernel, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and the Windows SMB Server.

    GP 2016 version 16.00.0579

    Windows Server 2012 R2 version 6.3.9600

Virtualized environment, patch was loaded two days ago and at the end of the day yesterday GP had slowed down and today they couldn't even log in.  The customer has since removed the windows updates and is back functioning close to before for right now.

It does look like one of the known issues with these updates is in regards to AMD processors as you mentioned:

"Microsoft has reports of some customers with AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing this KB. To prevent this issue, Microsoft will temporarily pause Windows OS updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time."

It also mentions, "Microsoft is working with AMD to resolve this issue and resume Windows OS security updates to the affected AMD devices via Windows Update and WSUS as soon as possible."

Do you have any machines that have Intel processors with these updates installed and Dynamics GP? If so, do you see the performance or related issues on those machines?

My test server has an Intel processor, so I'm not sure these updates would affect mine the same. I'll dig into it some more and let you know if I find anything.

There may be other customers seeing this forum that can give more information as well, so we'll see what we get......

    Thanks
