Dynamics 365 Portal : Web file deployment between environments

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Hi,

We are currently trying to deploy our customizations from an environment to an other existing environment.
We have successfully used the "CRM Configuration Migration" Tool, except for one thing : web files.

We have added some .js, .css and some images using the "Notes" section of web files to upload our files.
For each web file, we have several notes but only the most recent one is used by the portal.

The problem is, when we deployed those webfiles, the notes were not in the right order ! The consequence is that the second environment is using old versions of .js, .css and images, which is pretty annoying (and took us some time to understand why it was not working even if it had the right amount of notes.)

Is there any solution to keep Notes order for web files, or even better to keep only the most recent one ?

Thank you in advance for you help,

Léonore des PLAS

    Hi Leonore,

Is there any specific reason to use multiple attachments to a single web file? I have never used web files to store multiple attachments and I don't think it supports this. If you do so, it will refer to the latest file you attached and it is the expected behaviour of web files.

As per the Adxstudio Community, The file attachment of the newest note associated with the web file is used as the file content.

So for a smooth migration, I would not recommend you to keep multiple attachments in a web file. Thinks any alternative. or let me know the exact need of having it.

    Hi Leonore,

Is there any reason that you are keeping the old versions of the web files when deploying the new versions?

Delete the old versions, and add the new versions, and you should not be encountering any of these issues.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Thank you for your answer =)

This portal was started by an other firm, and I believe they were using the notes for history purposes.

We have put all the files we changed in a distant repository, but were a bit in a rush and did not back up the files we didn't touch yet as we thought it wouldn't cause any trouble !

We will take care of this before the next deployment.

    Have a good day !
