clone a patch or clone solution

Hi, I have some small changes on the solution, should I go for patch or clone solution, or just export existing solution and import to another environment? what is the major difference for those 3 options?

    You just add the required components in the existing solution export it and import to another environment

    Unfortunately the parent solution you create a patch for becomes locked (it behaves like a managed solution) and you can no longer see the fields on a form etc
