I would like to find out how to have a prompt come up asking for the customers zipcode or phone number. Is there a way to do that?

Marc,
I tried your approach, but all it saves is the customer ID on the table for each transaction, plus you have to choose an existing customer :(
Browsing other options, I found one that prompts you to add comments to the receipt, this works for me as it will translate to pure text on the table which I can then query on :)
Thanks for following up!

Larry,
If you are not wanting to go through creating a customer for each transaction and just want to collect demographic data, then our RITE Demographics tool may be a good fit for you. If you are interested in learning more, please drop me an email.
Sure thing. Go to SOM - File - Configuration - Options Tab- Customer options, then you can check either 'prompt for customer' or 'require customer for sales transaction'. I think you could probably make that work for you.
You are correct, there is a field in the Transaction table for Customer ID for each transaction.
Marc
Marc,
I guess such option exists in SOM, can you share which option are you referring to?
I suppose each transaction stores the customer number on a different field.
Thanks,
...Alex
There is a configuration option to require a customer for each sale. If you use phone numbers as the customer's account number, the cashier would be required to ask each customer for their phone number.

Hi Larry,
I had the same exact requirement.
There are 2 way of doing this...
1. Create a form to ask for these 2 piece of information every time you tender a transaction. This way requires customized development that requires RMS SDK access which, unfortunately, I do not have, not sure about you.
2. Create a form to ask for these 2 piece of information when you press one of the custom button in RMS. This way requires simple development of the form and create the custom button in SOM (Store Operations Manager). This way, of course, you don't need to have the RMS SDK -that's the route I took so I don't have to pay for the consultant to do it :)
By the way, I save this info on a separate database (not the RMS database) and collect it on a hourly basis from all my stores to data mine it.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks,
...Alex
