POS 2009 Items defined in custom Keypad are Changing the Item number

2 lines running POS 2009,

There are over 50 items on the custom keypads and during the day every day a button stop working,

When I check on managers view the item number has changed to a single digit number, as a result the button can't  find the item.

This is happening randomly and every day, I reindex the database and still happening.

Please Help!

    Do your cashiers have access to Manager Mode? Can they change item numbers?
