Filter and Sorting icon doesn't appear in custom form grids

When I filter or sort in a standard F&O form I see the following icon(s) next to field:

However, none of my custom forms do it. Is there a setting somewhere to turn those on for custom forms?

So far as I can tell there is no way to cause these icons to show up unless you use a form pattern. I will be passing this question on to MS.

This does happen to all field types on the grid.

The pattern I'm using is Custom. This made me wonder if that was the problem and it sure was!

The 'Custom' form pattern doesn't show these icons. My other custom forms that have a pattern show the icons.

Is there any way to get those icons to show in a custom form pattern?

The screenshot isn't about the quick filter control.

b_radlyjames, are you saying that you can sort by and filter by a grid column but the icon isn't displayed on the grid column header?
