Link between project management and accounting and production control

Posted on by

Is there any smart way to connect the modules to each other?

Just 2 examples what i am looking for:

Resources:

In project management and accounting i have to define and setup project resources.
The same setup is done in Production control .

At least for workers (employees) the same base information is used.

But unfortunately i was not able to reflect (hard) reservations from project and accounting in the production control and vice versa.

Production orders that are belonging to an item:

Generating an item requirement in project management and accounting generates a (planned) production order.

If in order to fulfill this production aditional productions (deeper BOM levels) are necessary.

How can I

 - Trace what productions in total are belonging to that project

 - Collect the needs and realized consumptions of that derived productions in the project ?
 (Requirement based coverage assumed)

Any experiences or ideas?

    Hello Heiko,

Right, this is why I suggested using PowerBI because I don't know how the project ID could be inherited from the 'main' production order into the one the 'child' production order that is created out of the main one.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

from the production order could try to see for multilevel pegging which should give the upstream and downstream usage of the production order

    Hi Ludwig,

thanks a lot for your reply.

Just one additional question if i got you right:

Lets say i created an item requirement for a finished good in the project. --> The related production order has the project id like you described. That Works fine!

What i did not manage is to get that project id inherited into the semi finished product production that is needed to be produced first.

This is why you suggested to design a special BIReport as the inheritance i am looking for is not possible?

    Hello Heiko,

Some notes on your questions below:

    1. Trace that productions in total belonging to a project:

Project related production orders have a link to your project via the project ID that you can use for filtering. There is also a committed cost functionality available in the parameters that allows you an early view on the expected costs even before the production is completed.

    2. Collect the needs and realized consumption ...

You will see the costs on the project once the production is completed.

Before that you can make use of committed costs.

The individual production postings can only be followed at the project level in exceptional cases (no costing sheet used, etc.). Please check the MS docs sites for more information on those exceptions if needed.

    3. Multiple productions

To get a good overview and become able to filter and analyze multiple productions together, I would say that you will need a kind of specialized PowerBI report. You can of course try using filters and the committed cost features but most of the time this won't be flexible enough for most production/project managers.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
