Microsoft.XRM.SDK.dll upgrade

Hi All,

I have one small doubt regarding Microsoft.Xrm.SDK.dll. Recently i received an email from Microsoft saying they are turning off support for any Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.dll version less than 8.2.

I am using Dynamics CRM 2016 (App version: 8.1.1.1183, DB Version: 8.1.1.1183),  and sdk client to connect to this CRM. This sdk client uses Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.dll v6.1.

I want to know will it continue to work or i have to make change in the code and upgrade the dll?

Thanks

    Hi,

"Turning off support" only means that if you want in the future to open a support ticket by MS. They will not help you resolve your problem.

@Guillaume Domont ..are you sure functionality will not be effected? Existing dll ver which i am using still continue to work?

    Hi Integration Developer,

it is a best practice to keep sdk library up to date.

If you use a limited set of functionality you may not have any trouble, however each upgrade put your crm "on risk".

Please upgrade sdk libraries next time you will update your custom code.

I had a problem with v6.0 SDKs when one of my clients updated to Dynamics 365 v8.1 v8.2. I had to replace all the v6.0 SDKs with new ones, because I couldn't establish the connection to the CRM with this version of the client.

I think that is related with SOAP service depreciation.

EDIT: I checked that organization and it's on v8.2, not v8.1

I am not sure what the email was saying, but, if you are still on the 8.1 version of CRM, and if 6.1 SDK is working for you, I wouldn't worry.. not until  your CRM is upgraded, at least (at which point you may need to update the SDK assemblies)

I checked problematic organization and I realized that I posted the wrong version in the pervious post so I did an edit to match the real information.

Technically you will have no issues with using your existing SDK dll v6.1 with CRM clients, but if you decide to upgrade to Dynamics 365 your must update your client.

I would recommend that you start porting your code to the new versions of the SDK regardless, or at least to version 8.1. I have experienced issues of missing functionality on 2013 assemblies connecting to 2016 environment, but no issues with 2016 (8.1) dlls connecting to 2013 environment.

I would think your organization will eventually upgrade to Dynamics 365, at which point in time your application will stop working.

    Good luck.

@Aric ... i am performing only CRUD operation using client and some fetch operation. I think it wont give any issue. What you think? And that line "Microsoft saying they are turning off support for any Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.dll version less than 8.2.  " also means that they will not entertain tickets regarding dll below 8.2 but functionality will not be deprecated. What you guys think?

@Ivan .. I think it will give issue only if we upgrade CRM to v8.2 because from v8.2 they removed soap and brings webapi into picture.

SOAP is not removed from v8.2.

It is deprecated in v9.0, which means that it is still available, but no longer supported.

SOAP will probably be removed from v10 of Dynamics 365.

    Hope this helps.
