Can we delete cashiers? Will it hurt transaction history?

We have always been afraid to delete cashiers and sales reps - thinking it would mess up sales transaction history.  Now we are at the point where the list is getting out of hand.  Can we delete sales reps and cashiers?  Or is there a way to make them 'inactive' like products?

how do I know if a report joins on cashier?

we do run sale by cashier for current reporting (past week).  Most of our reports do not show a cashier or sales rep but I don't know if these are just hidden fields.

This is only a problem if you have reports that inner join the cashier and salesrep tables.  In that case removing the entries will make associated sales not show on the reports.  Simple fix is to change those reports to left join, and then missing cashier and sales rep names will show blank.
