MRP duplication for finished goods and semi finished goods

Hi

i have demande thé is loaded into dynamics for a semi finished product and a finished product.
the SF product is consumed into the finished product.

problem, when MRP runs it calculates the requirements twice. Once for the finished good line items, where it calculates the SF requirement but also creates the raw material requirement for the SM product.
secondly, this is again (correctly) created for the semi finished product. This suggesting double the amount of raw material needed.

hoping someone can help!

thanks

I have the same question (0)

    Hi!

    Craig.E.

if you set up demand for the Finished good and the semi finished MRP calculates the following:

    * Production order for SF.

-> Purchase orders for the Raw material

    * Production order for the FG

--> Another Production order for the SF

--> More Purchase order for raw material.

Try set up demand only for the Finished good

RE: MRP duplication for finished goods and semi finished goods

    Hi

I cannot do this. We demand forecast is provided by an external application and updates daily.

Also, we require demand for both semi finished goods and finished goods as 70% of our semi finished volume is made at one site and can be packed at various external tollers (manufacturers).

This requirement is standard in SAP and use planned independent requirements and a different MRP indicator. Doesn’t seem so simple in D365...

    how is BOM setup?

    if it is

    FG

    -SFG

    --RM1

    --RM2

    then would only plan once

    Hey Rahul

There is a FG BOM which contains the SFG item and packing materials.

There is also a SFG BOM that contains all RM requirements.

Effectively there are two sets of demand driving supply and works order creation. One for the FG and one for the SFG.

    Hope this helps...

Hello Craig could you show us the net requirement page for the double demand?

I think I can help but if you could share the screnshots of that would be good.

    Craig,

You are correct that your scenario is complex. You need to model this correctly.

If Semi finished product is manufactured at a different site then the demand forecast has to be entered for the different site. So the requirement for the bill of material components is considered at site where it is manufactured. MRP will calculate the raw material demand at that site.

In the Bill of material for finished goods, the line for finished good  BOM line type should be "pegged supply" to ensure no raw material is procured at that site for semi finished product.

Also you might need to have bill of material versions by site. if the SF products can sometimes be manufactured.

SAP might have some additional capabilities which might make it easy but MRP module of D365 is pretty good as well once the hard work of modelling is done.

As FG BOM contains the SFG item and packing materials - it would only create demand for them

Now for SFG BOM which contains RM requirements - it would only generate demand for RM.

if it's not then check pegging and net requirements as MRP won;'t suggest to buy without a pegging
