What is the best way to implement Full-text searching on SQL for GP2010 and GP2013?

Or perhaps more appropriately, is it advisable to do this?  I didn't see anything readily apparent via Google or searching this site.

What are you trying to create the full text search on? Specific tables? Modules? everything?

I'm taking a guess but you're trying to create it on the HR tables?

We'd mainly start with SOP, and move to IV and POP eventually.

We're a pretty small shop so we have no real reason to create Full-Text indexes on our tables, but here's Microsoft's guide on how to create Full-Text indexes and the proper syntax to query them.

You might already know how to do this so I'm not sure if your searching for specific tables that you feel would benefit from Full-Text search or not.

Might not be the best answer you're looking for but to sum it up the question to ask is what table would benefit from Full-Text search.

    Hi Jerry,

I don't know if this is what you might be going for, but a colleague and I developed a search engine for Dynamics GP called Search Master that we thought was fantastic.

Unfortunately, we found that there just wasn't enough demand for the product among GP customers, so we no longer sell or maintain it.

However, in researching the search options, we didn't think that SQL Full Text searching would really address the types of searches that would be done in Dynamics GP.  For instance, if you need to find all records related to customer ABC, you don't really need full text search--the customer ID is already a dedicated field, and is indexed by SQL Server.  But searching the entire database in real time is impractical and slow.

Instead, we used the open source SOLR search engine.  We found that what we really needed was indexing of all of the content within the Dynamics GP database--something that SOLR did very well.

SOLR has a .NET API, so you can develop a .NET VS Tools solution that searches the SOLR index, finds the relevant records, and lets the user jump directly to those records in GP.

If you are interested in discussing further, feel free to contact me.
