How create junction object/entity between two entities

Posted on by 5

Hello,

I am trying to create a Junction Entity, in the Dynamics 365 Online environment.

In Salesforce.Com, we create a Junction Object which consists of two lookup fields.  Lookupfield1 points to Object1, Lookupfield2 points to Object2.  This automatically creates two Related Lists, one on each of the target Object forms.

I have created a Junction Entity in Dynamics, with the two Lookup fields.  But, no Related List is automatically created on either of the Entity forms.

I assumed that I could manually add it to each of the forms.  I edit one of the forms and choose the Navigation area.  I see my Junction Entity in the Common area on the left, but I don't seem to be able to do much with it.  I can drag it to other areas on the left (Sales, Service, Marketing, etc.), but I cannot drop it on my form.  Nor are there any fields showing in the Relationship Explorer window.

I hope that there is someone familiar with how this is done in Salesforce.Com who might help me emulate that in my Dynamics environment.

Thanks for any and all help.

Gary, thanks for the lightning-fast reply.

And for providing the exact information I needed.  That worked perfectly.

It's always a challenge when you are starting on a new platform...

    Thanks.

    Hi Bryan,

You are correct; although the navigation item is created automatically by virtue of creating the lookup field, the list is not automatically added to the form. To add it, open the Form Editor and click the Body button. Click in the form's Tab/Section where you want to show the list; you may want to create a new Tab and/or Section. Go to the Insert menu tab and click the Sub-Grid button. Complete the options in the dialog box that appears, and click OK to add the Sub-Grid. Remember to Save and Publish(!) the form, then refresh the form in the browser to see the result.
