Costing model in item model groups

What is the best costing to use in retail when setting up the item model group?

The main two we've been advised about are Standard Cost and Moving Average Cost but no one seems to have a idea about a primary setting. Has anyone come across this issue and what has been the main setting?

Are there any other issues that should be considered?

    Hi Harold,

The two mentioned options are models without having to use the inventory closing process. It is up to your company and advice from the accountant to use one of these or another.

You can download a whitepaper to understand the costing: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx.

There is an addendum for moving average as this is new in AX2012. www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Can you also explain what you mean with a primary setting?

    Thanks for the reply

When I said primary setting what I meant was a setting of either standard or moving average that should be the main setting within retail. Sorry for any confusion

Retail as fast moving turn of goods with moving costs I would go for average, but to be honest if the customer wants to analyse variances to a standard you would go standard, and this is in part the issue - there is no "main setting" - it is what the customer wants - if they have it one way currently and understand why and it works for them then why not implement it. If they dont know then go through the options explaining what it does and let them apply it to the business they work in.
