Sales volume budget by customer

What is the best way to include a sales budget by customer/ customer class? We do sales budget by item, customer class, customer and need to be able to import this budget into GP and generate sales report straight from GP, currently using crystal reports and excel.

We do the same budgeting process and to this day, we still do not report down to the item level.  Even though GP is granular from a transaction standpoint, it is not from a budget standpoint.  In our research, we ended up with Forecaster to enable budgeting down to the granular level (item level for a customer class).  FRx cannot handle this granular level either (I don't know what to expect from Management Reporter).

We were originally going to use Forecaster as our method of reporting actual vs budget. The premise was that we would upload actuals into Forecaster then be able to report actual vs budget based on the two books. There were reporting issues within Forecaster on the budget side, which maybe could still be resolved, but we did not pursue it (the issue would have caused the same issue when trying to product actual vs budget reports).  The issue was not identified during the research phase, so it did surprise us all.  We have instead continued reporting via Excel on actual vs budget by customer at the revenue stream level (we have 3 revenue streams), but not at the item level.

Forecaster is a useful product so you may want to research it.  Be sure to list all your needs (separate have to have from nice to have) and your current budget process before beginning the research process so each point can be reviewed and determine which can and cannot be performed by the software.  This was crucial for us and I still spent several hours in discussions before choosing the product.

Hope some of these points help.

You can only enter budgets in GP at the GL account level.  There may be a 3rd party product that would enable entering budgets at item/customer level.
