Create a New Company from the current company

Posted on by 295

Hello everybody,

I have created a new company using a backup from the current company because we want to keep the sales setup, purchasing setup, etc., customers and inventory but I would like to know how to clean the all historical transactions, purchasing, etc?

My current Dynamics is GP8.0

Thanks in advance,

Jose G.

    Hi Jose,

Perhaps it was just my installation, but I did an install and needed to clear all of the transactions so we could start with a clean database. I did not find a comprehensive list of things to delete so I created one specific to my application. There were several 'extra' steps that needed to be done in order to clean out the database. If you still want to clear transactions instead of just saving the setups please give me a call at 972-814-8550.

If you are using a 32-bit machine you can also use the Rapid tools to copy the setup/configuration items. I've found this to be more complete than the KB article.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Also a good idea to run Checklinks after you use Clear Data in case you missed any tables.

You can use Clear Data under File>Maintenance>Clear Data to remove master and transactional data from tables.  After clearing data from the relevant transaction tables, run reconcile on those modules to reset summary totals.

If you have access to the knowledge base, you can also take a look at KB article 874208 - How to transfer setup information between company databases by using Microsoft SQL Server

Have you looked at the Copy Company utility available on Partner / Customersource? This allows you to copy just the setup and master data from one company to another and ignore the transactional data. It might be a better and faster way tro achieve what you want, rather than trying to strip out the transactional data that is now in your new company?

    Best regards,
