Display Methods in Dynamics AX

Hi fellows, I've been searching for information about "display methods", although there's info in MSDN I have several doubts about it:

1.  I want to add a display method in the form, so I added a text control to show on it something, do I have to create the display method in the textcontrol or in the method of the form?

If you have an example step by step where I can see how is a method made and the place where it's made I would appreciate it. What I want to do is to show in that display method the sum of the amounts of a table of transaction.

Thanks a lot

    Hi,

I believe , you are trying to display sum of amount of transactions.

    1. Go to table --> methods node and write a display method to calculate sum of amount of transactions.

    2. Create a field group named Total amount on table and drop display method created in step 1 in this field group.

    3. Go to form , right click and restore it.

    4. Drill down Form in AOT , you will see that field group in Data sources node --> Table-->Field-->See field groups.

    5. Drag and drop field group to form design at required place. Check labels, data source etc. in control properties.

    6. Open the form and you will see total amount of transactions!

    Hope it helps!

You can place your display method in a table, form data source or directly on a form (similarly with reports). Nevertheless only table method can be cached.
Find details in Using the display Method Modifier.
