NAV 2016 Recommended System Requirements

Hi all,

I apologize if this is posted incorrectly, but I have a two part question. I have come across the article that lists the minimum system requirements, but I'm curious what the recommended install path is. Is it best to install the different NAV components on separate Windows Server installations (EX: put SQL on it's own server), or is it acceptable to install all components on one server? We will be using VMware's ESX to create virtual machines.

My other question, is Citrix XenDesktop supported to run the client portion of NAV? In our environment, we plan to have users with thin clients connecting to XenDesktops and then accessing NAV. I would just like to verify that this is an acceptable solution. If this needs to be broken into separate posts, let me know. I would appreciate any info or recommendations that you all have.

Thanks in advance,

Jake

My personal opinion is that SQL database should be installed on a separate server, and this should be a physical host (not a virtual machine). The reason for this is a fight for fault tolerance and performance. When you have a huge database with several hot tables, you can manipulate distribution of file groups to different physical hard drives and analyze the load of disk system more transparent than on a virtual machine.

In ideal case, you should have your application server and SQL server on two different locations. Terminal server, if any, should also be separated, or client installed on local user working stations.

    Citrix is totally ok.

I appreciate the quick response Suresh. I assume that if connecting to NAV through a published Citrix application works, then having users access NAV through a Citrix virtual desktop should also work?

    Thanks again,

    Jake

Although there is no limitation to have SQL and NAV on both servers, it is recommended to both have Separate servers i.e. SQL on its own server and NAV on its own server.

Yes we do have clients who use Citrix and provides apps for the users to connect to NAV.
