Hi,
I've used the import tool before to put in new records but I am struggling with very simply updating a field.
I have the Primary keys of the entities I wish to update (or in fact its 4 parent entities) and I have the data I wish to add to each record
However, I try to import using the primary key reference against - what in the wizard claims to be the primary key - it fails (the look up reference cannot be resolved) - this is fairly irritating as the I've pulled the primary key from the table Im trying to map it back into.
Any thoughts....this would take 5 minutes to do in SQL and I have been fighting with a wizard for two hours...
Thanks

Hi Jay,
many thanks for your update. In case the issue still persists, I'd suggest you the following as next:
If the issue occurred with particular records only and other records were successfully updated following the above explained approach, I would recommend you to review the failing records to identify a possible pattern for them. In you are not able to go forward with the troubleshooting, I would recommend you as next step to open a Support Request with CRM Technical Support at the following link - www.microsoft.com/.../contact-technical-support.aspx and work with one of my colleagues to address the issue.
Many thanks.

Hi Nina,
Thanks for your explanation above.
I undertook the process you described in order to update multiple records in my CRM. However after I reimported the file I had multiple partial failures for the exact records I'd updated.
The error message is 0x80040333, indicating it wasnt updated because it identified the record as a duplicate. This seems odd. Surely it should recognise it as a duplicate but update the origional?
Is there something i'm missing?
Thanks,
Jay
Hi,
I understand that this issue is already resolved. Just to confirm - the recommended approach here would be indeed the below:
1. Go to the Entity you would like to update
2. Create a view containing all the fields you would like to update, e.g using the Advanced Find
3. Export to Excel
4. Select “Static worksheet with records from all pages in the current view” and the option “Make this data available for re-importing by including required column headings”
5. Update the records in the Export file and reimport the file
Please let us know the current state of the issue and if this helps.
Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Communities.

Never mind....its not supported....
Unless you export all the records....update them and re-import the,...much simpler and risk free....
