How to hide unit cost on Sales Order Inquiry GP

Posted on by 1,175

We need to hide the unit cost field on Sales Order Processing Document Inquiry window. (Inquiry> Sales > Sales Documents) We tried to use the field level security to hide this field; however, it didn't seem to work for this unit cost field.

We set the field level security as below:

Product ID: 0

Product Name: Microsoft Dynamics GP

Form Name: SOP_Inquiry

Window Name: Line_Scroll

Field Name: Unit Cost

Also, tried;

Product ID: 0

Product Name: Microsoft Dynamics GP

Form Name: SOP_Inquiry_Item_Detail

Window Name: SOP_Inquiry_Item_Detail

Field Name: Unit Cost

Unfortunately, neither one of the setting was not working for us. Could anyone please help us how to hide this field?

Thank you in advance.

The SOP Inquiry Window has two overlapping fields for Unit Cost, Originating Unit Cost and Unit Cost.

As a result, when the Originating Unit Cost field is hidden the Unit Cost field is shown (since it no longer has the Originating Unit Cost field on top of it).

The solution that worked for me was to use Modifier to move the Unit Cost off of the visible portion of the window. Then, FLS and the Display Item Unit Cost setting both began working as expected.

    Howdy again,

You do not need to have a license to the full modifier, only the customization site license. That license comes free with all versions of Dynamics GP. If you have been on the software for over 7 years, it's possible you do not have it. It only cost $300 back in the old module days, so that was pretty cheap.

While I would love for FLS to work on this one, it has stumped be.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thank you for all of your replies.

We tried to many field which related with Unit Cost, but as Leslie said it didn't work. We understand that it is possible if we have modifier tool installed, but we don't. Also, SOP setup doesn't hide the kit option window's unit cost where you can see on the top right corner, not in the component unit cost.

It is definetely something wrong with the program, but hopefully, it get fixed near future..

    Howdy,

Wow, this is a tough one. Like my collegues, I've tried to set Field level security (FLS) on all of the 'cost' fields. The Unit Cost, the Originating Unit Cost, as well as the (L) Unit Cost. Nothing worked.

I made the Unit Cost and Originating Unit Cost fields' Visible property to False using Modifier and that worked, the field was not visible. Of course, the problem with this (or maybe not a problem) is that it is invisible for everyone using the modified window.

I do not know the secret to getting FLS to work like we think it should, but hopefully someone will come along with the answer. I tried a couple of different 'action' settings in FLS, but none of those worked either.

With regards to having your reseller make the change for you, they only need to send you the .package file that stores the customization for that specific window. They would not have to have your whole Forms.dic file.  If you have any other changes to your SOP Inquiry screen, you'd need to create the .package file of that one window and they could make the change and return it.

It would be a VERY easy change, so it should not be expensive.

One thing I did notice that I thought was odd, is that on each scrolling window, the Display Name shows up as 'Project'. I couldn't figure out where that name came from.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

You can tell if you are licensed for Modifier by openning the inquiry screen and then Tool->Customize->Modify Current Window. If that option is available then you are licensed for Modifer. If it is dim then you are not licensed. Contact your reseller if you need to purchase this license. Now it is possible that you are only  licensed for the Customization Site License. That would allow your reseller to make this change using their license and then they would send you the FORMS.DIC and you load it and use it.

    Hi Richard,

Is Forms Modifier one of GP default modules? If it is, could you please let me know how to get to it? We don't have modifier, so we cannot controll the field.

Also, we don't want to set unit cost invisible to all users. We just want to restrict to particular users.

    Thank you.

Can't you go into Forms Modifier and mark the Unit Cost property of Visible to False?

Yes. I don't know why either. Also, we have set the inventory inquiry field level security to hide all unit cost related fields. It worked fine. We just have a problem hiding the unit cost field on the sales order process transaction inquiry window.

Really?  I never checked that.  Seems dumb that it works in entry but not in inquiry.  I'll have to test the Field Level Security on that field.

    Hi Frank,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, we already setup not to show the unit cost on SOP setup. It works only for Sales Transaction Entry screen. Even though we set up on SOP setup, it doesn't effect the inquiry windows. Therefore, we are trying to figure out how to hide it on inquiry window.
