Click-to-call through Skype opens a new blank browser tab

While using CRM2013 with IE 10 or Chrome, when I click on a phone number to dial thru Skype it opens a new blank browser tab. It is annoying, I can close the tab and continue the process.

This is not unique to one workstation or one database.

Any suggestions?

    Hello Aftab,

    We doubled checked and his are setup correctly. We didn't have to make any changes bases on the articles that you had suggested. We even tried a CRM and Skype install on a new computer, yet the behavior is the same.

    Any other suggestions?

    The problem is consistent with all forms and entities including list views.

    Hello Shahe,

    many thanks for the information. In this case, the issue is most probably related to the general set up of the integration rather than e.g. the setting of a particular form/ entity/field.

    As I understand that you completed the set up following the documents my colleague Afab suggested you, I would recommend you to open a Support Request with CRM Technical Support at the following link - www.microsoft.com/.../contact-technical-support.aspx. Thus one of my colleagues will work with you and take a screen sharing session if needed to understand and resolve your particular issue.

    Hi Shahe,

    You might also want to check the settings on the browsers, if it specifies that links should open popups in a new tab it will do so for Skype/Lync as well. It's different for every browser, but this is what it looks like in IE/Internet Options:

    Other browsers, such as Firefox, have add-ons which allow you the ability to specify which applications open links in a new tab.

    Unfortunately not. Microsoft claims that it's normal behavior which is hard to believe!
