Dynamics GP 2013 client install (Utilities)

Hi,

I have recently created a Dynamics GP 2013 R2 installation package to run on our clients so they can use 2013. This works fine but after the install it always wants to run GP Utilities before it will let the user log in.

Now I have already upgraded our forms and reports on my machine and the databases are at the correct levels.

Is there a way I can have the install not prompt to run Utilities? I have modified the dex.ini which did prevent Utilities from running but then returned an error.

If the user did run Utilities it would just say everything was correct and you could then exit.

Might not seem like a big deal but I need to install this 75 times and UAC prompts will be an issue as well.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Mark

The normal behavior of the installation to end up with running the utilities in order to check against the server and validate the version. Normally, if you are installing a higher version, the utilities will prompt an upgrade for the server. Otherwise, it is nothing but a Synchronization for the client against the server.

    Hi Mahmoud,

Understand that, but I have done all the prep and upgraded on my machine, all I need is the client installed on staff machines and I will copy my upgraded reports and forms to their installs.

I need to do this 75 times so don't want to run Utilities on every machine, I just want the user to be able to log straight in by someone making the install think it has already ran Utilities.

As before, if they did run Utilities it doesn't upgrade anything as I have already synchronized everything.

When deploying GP2010 a few ago this was done but I can no longer remember how we did it.

    Thanks

    Okay, crystal clear

After you are done with the installation package. Do not open Dynamics GP, rather copy the "Data" folder from the server to the Dynamics GP folder destination, the default path is  (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2013\Data)

By doing that you are replacing the Dex.ini file containing the version number on the machine with the one one the server.

Let me know if it works out with you,

    Hi,

Done the above and all seemed to working until I pressed ok after choosing a company to log in, was then presented with the following message:

    0412.2.JPG

After pressing ok that message I get the following:

If I try to log into the company again I will receive the same two messages.

    Thanks

The data folder contains two primary files ACCTFRAM.txt which stores the account segmentation and format details, along with the Dex.ini

Could you please try to copy the Data folder from another client which you have already run the utilities for rather than copying it from the server.

    Same thing unfortunately,

I don't seem to have a ACCTFRAM.txt within my data directory though, this applies to the Server install, the install on my machine and a Virtual Machine install.

Only things in the data directory are

    Letters folder

    Dex.ini

5 Dictionaries which are my updated forms and reports etc

Having a quick look at the first error, the fix is to set the 'Synchronize' flag to TRUE within dex.ini so it will launch Utilities again, which is annoying.

    Thanks

For a specific machine, run the installation package and then the utilities, after then, you should have the ACCTFRAM file, it is created as part of the Sync.

Now consider this Data folder when copying it from one machine to another.

Let me know how it goes,

    Done,

No ACCTFRAM.txt file, I tried running the install package on a blank machine and then even tried installing from the default media, ran Utilities on both and then checked the Data folder, no ACCTFRAM.txt file.

I must admit I have never seen this file before, even in previous versions.

    Thanks

Usually, it should on the server, But it has nothing to do with the errors you are encountering.  To get back on track, if you copy the whole GP folder from another working station to a newly installed one, would you still get the errors ?

    That worked,

Didn't ask for Utilities to run and logged straight in.

I presume there is a certain group of files that I need to copy instead of the whole directory,

But this is enough to get me going,

Thank you very much for your help Mahmoud
