Inventory revaluation

we have a few inventory items that have the wrong valuation method.  trying to run the utility to fix these items but end-user keeps getting message that transactions are being edited.

do all users need to be out of GP for this to actually work?  we only need to update about 10 items

    RE: Inventory revaluation

    Hi Deanne!

Both of the posts from Mahmoud and Soma have great steps to go through. If you still receive the message about users editing items or transactions there could be stuck sessions if no user is in any windows that affect IV,SOP or POP. Which using the scripts the Soma provided would come into play.

Please let us know if this issue continues to exist!

Mahmoud, thanks for your valuable information.

Suppose if any user session is still running on backend(DEX_SESSION table) then, how can we run the Inventory Utilities?

Just for the record, you really do not need to log off the users when running an Inventor Utility. Lets take the inventory reconciliation as an example, when you click the process button to initialize the reconciliation, the system checks whether any user is "currently" processing inventory-related transactions, that would include SOP, POP, IV, MFG ...etc.

So all you need is to simply let users close inventory-related windows, and you are safe to go as the system will let you proceed.

In one of the companies I have worked with, more than 40 users working on the system concurrently on a daily bases, it was not efficient at all to log off all the users (which was not needed at all), what I did is to let the users stop working on inventory-related processes, and proceed with inventory utilities.

I think you need to run Inventory Utilities after all the users are logged off from Dynamics GP.

If some users are not logged off properly then run the below to clear all the users session.

    DELETE DYNAMICS..ACTIVITY

    DELETE  DYNAMICS..SY00800

    DELETE DYNAMICS..SY00801

    DELETE  TEMPDB..DEX_LOCK

    DELETE  TEMPDB..DEX_SESSION

Note: Before running the above queries, make sure all users are logged off from Microsoft Dynamics GP.

    Hope this helps!!!

    RE: Inventory revaluation

    Hello deanne

Most of the inventory utilities require users to close the distribution modules (SOP, POP and IV), they should not necessarily close Dynamics GP. I would like to draw your attention on the following prerequisites to be considered when an item valuation method is changed:

    •  Make sure that there are no pending "saved" documents in any of the distribution modules for this item (SOP, POP and IV)
    • Item quantity allocations should be zero, which comes as a matter of fact as derived from the previous step
    • Item type is Sales Inventory
    • Users are not having any of the distribution module window open

You can then proceed with the "Change Valuation Method" utility.

Never hesitate to share any further inquiries,
