Dimension value change

We want to change the name of a dimension value.  I know how to do it via General Ledger Setup but want to make sure it's as easy as it seems to be and I'm not overlooking any other steps or ramifications.  Other then editing the dimension value, are there any other steps/ramifications?

Thank you!

Can you tell us what Dynamics 365 application this question is related to? There are several different solutions in the Dynamics 365 family, like: Finance,  or Business Central. If you can clarify the product, we can move the question to the dedicated forum for that solution and provide the answer related to the specific solution.

    Hi there,

Yes, changing the name of a dimension value in Dynamics 365 is generally straightforward and can be done directly via the Dimensions setup page — it does not affect historical transactions since the dimension value code remains unchanged.

However, here are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. No Impact on Posted Entries:

      • Renaming the dimension value does not alter any posted entries or reports, as they reference the code, not the name.
    2. Review Reports and Filters:

      • If you use custom reports or filters that rely on the dimension name (rather than the code), you may need to update those manually.
    3. User Communication:

      • Inform users of the change to avoid confusion, especially if the name change reflects a reclassification or business process update.
    4. Audit and Compliance:

      • If your organization has strict audit requirements, document the change for future reference.

Let me know if you need help locating the setup page or updating related reports!

Please verify if this response was helpful.

    Best regards!
