Using NAV for Property Assets Management & Work Orders

Hi All,

We are in the process of moving the Finance module from our Housing system to NAV. I wanted to know if we should also move the Property Asset management module as I understand NAV has an assets management addon. The reason being the work orders will be raised from the housing system but when the invoice comes in it will be entered in NAV and someone will have to close the work order from the housing system. My finance team is okay with this as they believe the finance system should not be doing this.

Correct me if I'm wrong as my approach was that we also move the assets module to NAV so we can raise the work orders from NAV so when the invoice comes and payment is done we can close the work order from NAV itself. I guess in the idea world the work order should be closed when the job is completed and not having to wait for the invoice.

Could you please advise if it makes sense to move the asset module to NAV and if NAV is good enough to handle asset management.

    Hi,

Anyway, when you move to NAV, you may have to design a couple of integration tools to move back and forth of the data from NAV and current Asset Management system.  So it would be ideal to move even the Asset Management to NAV, but you need to gauge the volume of current functionalities available in and customizations required in the Add-on with respect your existing system.

    Best Regards,

    MMV

Thanks MMV. Our current asset management system is pretty basic which is only used to raise work orders and send to contractors to repair properties. Also the integration will be such that the data will follow from asset system to NAV and NOT backwards.

It is best to go ahead with the FA module in NAV. As MMV said if you keep the current asset management system, then you need to have integrations with the NAV or users has to key in the data manually to NAV. It will be a headache to your company. So best thing is check out the FA module in MS Dynamics NAV.

It might not have all the functionality you are looking for, but that is where customization comes in.

Ask your NAV partner to do a demo on the FA module and then explain your cases to them and they will be able to provide you a complete solution.

It is always good to have a complete system with all the solutions you required, rather than having several island systems.

I have been advised to get the Assets Management Add-on which is purely to manage properties. Can we use NAV Fixed Assets Module to manage basic aspects around a Property (House, Unit) like repair and maintenance. Schedule regular maintenance like lawning grass so automatically a work order is regenerated?

MS Dynamics NAV has the FA maintenance. To get more info on this do read below PDF :

    Hi Tharanga,

I was looking at an addon as below instead of using FA.

That also a good option. But first check if the NAV cater your requirement and how much it does. If it covers majority of your requirement then no point of going for a addon.
