SA Account Locked

Hi, New to forum. I just started at a company as systems admin. Accounting department is using Great Plains 2010. Runs on server 2008 R2 Ent and is a VMware machine. Upon starting last month I found out this is handled by a contractor. When I tried backing it up got failure truncating logs "insufficient permissions". This led to me to ask contractor for sa account password. After being provided wrong password 4 times the sa account is now locked. I also just discovered all services under SQL Server Services are under a custom domain account someone in the past set up for him. I am not a SQL admin but know that this is not good. If something happens to him or he quits we are literally screwed. I need help on first of all unlocking sa account. Then need to have these SQL services and instances running on a domain admin account dedicated for this server. Can someone with experience please help me get started? I have full control and can make any necessary changes. I also can reboot or restart services after 4:30pm. I just want to be very careful not to take down system and have to call this guy begging for help. I want him to keep his job as contractor and continue creating custom reports but take system control back into our hands as it should be. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The sa account will unlock itself after a while if left alone.

However, if you can log in as another sys admin or security admin account you can unlock and reset the password for the sa account by expanding the Security and Login nodes. Rich click on sa user and select properties.

Enter a new password and confirm password then click on the Status node and unmark the Account is locked out checkbox and click OK
