The data in the hard disk cannot be read. How to solve this problem? Suddenly I can't open the disk. What should I do?

You don't mention if the issue occured on the server, but I can assume so, since on a workstation there isn't much data read by GP, except to start the client.

As many others recommended, there are various tools out there to try recover your data, but Elena is correct, you better prepare for the worst and setup a new temporary server and restore your last known good backup to get your users going with GP. Let us know if you need help on that matter.

I would recommend securing your backups for restore. Also, your paper backups (if you can, and just in case)...

While having the computer's HD worked on - you may want to configure a temp server, restore backup so the users can continue to work... you will just have to note down the discrepancy, so it can be recreated...

Even if you recover from the HD problem, your financial data may already be compromised... sorry - did not want to bear bad news, but I recommend you prepare for the worst.

It may actually be easier to create a new (temp) server, restore the last night's backup, and just recreate a day or two days transactions...

You can purchase a better one later, when the data had been restored and secured and transfer the temp server to the new one.

Is this a physical disk or a virtual disk inside an image. If it is physical when you reboot this computer does your BIOS show it during boot up? The first thing to try is to reseat all drive cable connections. If that does not work check to see if this drive is part of a RAID configuration. There is a BIOS on each RAID card with diagnostics. There are many reasons why this drive has suddenly disapeared. The simplest one is the drive has died. I am assuming it did appear at one time.

Do you have another machine that you can connect it to?

Can you see the hard disk in Disk Management? (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage)

If it is what does it say?

If the partitions are listed there, try to assign drive letters to the partitions (if you already haven't)

It is very difficult to say what exactly happened in your case. In this case, you have been rightly advised to run data recovery software like iBoysoft Data Recovery and retrieve lost data. Go through the documentation on how to use iBoysoft Data Recovery: https://iboysoft.com/data-recovery/free-data-recovery.html
