Hello everyone,
I'm new to the Dynamics Community. My name is Josh and I work for a financial services firm in Chicago. We've been utilizing the on-prem version of Dynamics 365 for quite some time now and we're entertaining the idea of migrating to the Cloud version. We're trying to figure out the best course of action because we have tons of workflows and custom updates built into our on-prem CRM.
From a migration standpoint, I know Dynamics 365 in the cloud is essentially it's own subset of the Dataverse, but there is a lot of other data we have in our on-prem system that we need to have up-to-date and completely synced with the Dynamics 365 Cloud data.
Has anyone gone through this type of migration? If so, could you provide me with either some advice on the best way forward or point me in the right direction toward knowledge articles or helpful vendors?
Thank you,
Josh
Thank you so much for you help here. These resources are exactly what I needed to help make our decisions on next steps. You're a life-saver, Prateek!
You can find much more detailed steps here: download.microsoft.com/.../OPtoCRMOnlineMigration.pdf
User Sync: cloudblogs.microsoft.com/.../
Audit Migration: Audit cant be moved OOB - and you might need to create a custom record to store audit if necessary. Audit field like createdon, modifiedon etc can be migrated.
Load Order: This has to be analyzed based on your organization's entity structure.
Data Size: Again this will decide the way and toll you want to use - SSIS, Data Factory, .NET, Scribe, or just OOB Import.
Few articles about these techs are :
ADF : nishantrana.me/.../
SSIS : www.itaintboring.com/.../
Scribe: help.scribesoft.com/.../crm.htm
Console: community.dynamics.com/.../934967
Thank you for the information. We haven't pursued the migration program but we are aware of it. Do you know of any knowledge articles related to the specific points you outlined above?
Hi,
Data Migration strategy will depend upon the complexity of the implementation. So while the solution import/export is pretty easy - the main complexity lies in :
User Migration
Audit Migration
Load Order
Data Size
However since you are already on D365, have you looked into this: dynamics.microsoft.com/.../
