Smartlist Builder Security

Hello GP World :-),

I have a question for anyone who may be able to answer. I just recently built a Smartlist using a view. MVP Victoria Yudin was very helpful in sending an article she wrote on creating Smartlists using views. I ended up using a view I created and followed the steps for granting the users security to the view. However, only the 'sa' user could see the data in the Smartlist. After doing everything I could think of to make the Smartlist visible, I finally had to go into SQL and grant the user permissions to manipulate/control the view. This worked.

Does anyone know how I might have avoided using SQL to grant permissions? How/why didn't GP security work? In GP, I gave everyone security to "View & Create Smartlists using SQL Tables" to no avail. :-)

You cannot avoid SQL to grant access to the view, but I might add, you don't need to grant access to each user, rather to the DYNGRP role.

    Hi Yvette.

Usually once the view is created in the companny database you need to execute the Grant.sql script on the database.

This will give access to anyone who belongs to the DYNGRP.

You will find the script in the GP Folder, SQL\Util subfolder on the server where GP was installed.

    Hope this helps

Great! Thanks guys! I just thought I was missing something. All the documentation I read only tells the reader to update GP security after building the Smartlist using a View. None of the documentation tells you that users need to be granted access in SQL. I figured that part out on my own.

Thanks. Now you've confirmed this for me. It doesn't look like I did anything wrong in GP security. :-)

    Yvette,

To see an example of what is needed take a look at any of the views I have posted on my blog, they are all listed here under the GP SQL Scripts section: http://victoriayudin.com/gp-reports/.

Every single view I post has a line at the bottom granting permissions to the view to DYNGRP, just follow the same syntax for your views.
